Talking About Feelings
Last month, our preschool room explored The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas. The story gave children the opportunity to recognise and name different emotions, reflect on their own experiences, and share how they feel with their friends and teachers.
Hands-On Learning
The children designed their own “emotion monsters” using arts and crafts materials, role-played characters from the story, and even painted wooden spoons to use during story time. By asking each other questions such as, “What makes you feel pink?”, they developed both their social and language skills in meaningful ways.
Linking Learning to Real Life
We extended this theme into science by experimenting with tissues, cups, and food colouring to see how colours transfer and blend. The children also enjoyed a summer of outings — from local parks and community walks to Hanwell Zoo and the Science Museum — broadening their awareness of the world around them while continuing to link colours, emotions, and experiences.
