Curiosity About the Natural World
Last week, our focus has been on exploring different habitats through small world play. Using miniature animals, natural materials, and themed play trays, our children have been encouraged to ask questions, explore, and discover how animals live in their unique environments. This type of play sparks natural curiosity and builds a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Building Language and Storytelling Skills
As our children talked about animals and their habitats, they developed important language and communication skills. They enjoyed describing where animals live and what they eat. Many children took their learning further by creating imaginative stories — from lions on the savannah to cows in the local farm — enhancing their creativity and confidence in storytelling.
Learning to Care for Nature
Small world play also offered opportunities to talk about the importance of caring for living things and respecting the environment. Through discussions and role play, children began to make connections between play and real-world responsibilities, building empathy and awareness.
A World of Discovery
By combining natural materials, sensory elements, and themed resources, our children not only had fun but also developed problem-solving, critical thinking, and social interaction skills. Exploring habitats through play helps children make sense of the world in a safe, hands-on, and engaging way.
